When I first got into this hobby, I only planned on getting two dolls, one to be Shuichi and one to be Yuki (from Gravitation). After having the two of them for almost a year I started thinking it might be fun to add a third doll into the mix. I began thinking of different characters that I liked that I might want to make a doll of, and started looking around at the different websites to see if any of the molds appealed to me. I eventually decided that I wanted to look around to see if I could find a doll that I could make work for the character of Caesar Silverberg from Suikoden III. I played the video game several years ago and loved it, but it wasn't until I recently read the manga that I fell in love with the character. I don't know why, but there is just something about Caesar that I really like a lot, and I thought it would be fun to have a doll of him. And with Caesar there would be a little bit more room to play with the character and his style, since he only wore one outfit in the series. With the character finally picked, I continued looking around online, until I came across the Achernar mold on Doll in Mind's website. I don't know what it was about the photos of him, but he just really looked like what I had in mind for Caesar.
I kept the Achernar in mind for a few weeks and did as much research as I could on the mold. It was harder this time around because I had two dolls already that the new one was going to have to work with. When I got Shuichi, the only thing that mattered was that I got one that I liked. With Yuki, I had to work around Shuichi's height and make sure that they would look good together. And now with Caesar, I had to make sure that his head size and everything would work with both of my dolls, Shuichi in particular, since they would be very close in height. I was hoping that Caesar would be the same height as Shuichi, but it turned out that he was actually shorter. However, I figured that it didn't matter because even though Shuichi is supposed to be short, Caesar was also pretty short in the manga, so it would work out. Even after I decided to get the Achernar, I was hesitant to order from the website because shipping was so much. And the dealer sites in the US, while they did carry D.I.M. dolls, did not have Achernar in stock or even listed on their sites anymore.
I kept looking around and as luck would have it, one was available on the Den of Angels marketplace. I liked the photos of his custom face-up and the fact that not only was shipping going to be much cheaper, but that I also wouldn't have to wait six weeks for him to arrive. I bought him from the seller on a Thursday evening, and he arrived at our house on the following Monday afternoon! Although I liked him when he got here, it did take a little while to get used to having three dolls around. Caesar is quite a bit shorter than I had thought he would be compared to Shuichi, but he looks really cute standing next to the others. I am very happy with Caesar and think he really fits the way I imagine the character.
Character Information
Caesar is based on the character of Caesar Silverberg from Suikoden III, which is a video game and manga series. The main part of the storyline revolves around the huge cast of characters and their involvement in the war between the Grasslands, Zexen, and Harmonia. Caesar came from a long line of famous military strategists, and although he was young and mostly without real experience, he was able to provide the Grasslands with invaluable advice and strategies. Under his guidance, the Grasslands and Zexen Army joined forces and were able to hold their own against Harmonia. Caesar formed a close friendship with Hugo, son of the chief of the Grasslands Karaya Clan, and when Hugo became the Flame Champion, Caesar volunteered to be his tactician. Caesar was a headstrong character who cared very much about others, and he always did what he believed was right. And although his temper occasionally got the best of him, his intelligence proved to everyone that he was not to be underestimated.
