Ever After High is a line of dolls by Mattel that focuses on the sons and daughters of fairytale characters. There is an online series of webisodes about the characters, where many struggle with if they will follow their fairytale destiny, or if they will choose their own path for the future.
I first found out about Ever After High dolls when I was reading through The Toy Box Philosopher blog, where several excellent reviews were posted about a few of them. I thought they were really cute dolls and went online to see which different ones were available. I was instantly drawn to Briar (I thought she was really pretty) and Dexter (loved his glasses and scarf). I eventually ordered them online and when they arrived, I was really impressed at how much detail went into these dolls. I love all of the accessories they come with and all the details on their clothes. It is also cool to see how much of their fairytale origins influenced their looks. When I was younger I was really interested in fairytales (Cinderella was my favorite), and this series is fun because it adds a different spin on the stories.
Another thing I really like about Ever After High is the webisode series. I didn't plan on watching any of them, but when I did I found myself really enjoying them. The characters are all so cute and the show is actually really well done. The focus on the royal vs. rebel dynamic is quite interesting and I like the message that it presents in that you don't have to follow the path that is set out for you if it isn't what you want for yourself. And it is also nice to see the friendships between the characters, and how they support one another even if they don't agree with the choices that are being made. The looks of the characters in the show also translate really well to the dolls, and I've had a lot of fun restyling their hair and painting their accessories. I have a very small collection as of now, and we'll see where it goes in the future!
