Conchita Wurst is an Austrian singer that rose to worldwide fame after winning the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Rise Like a Phoenix". I didn't know much about the contest other than that it's kind of an inside joke for Europeans that America isn't invited to, but I always enjoy watching the videos of the most memorable performances that people post online. When I watched Conchita's performance, I got chills and instantly fell in love with her voice and entire aesthetic. It was so exciting watching her win, and I knew right there that I'd be following her music career long after Eurovision.

I'm no stranger to drag culture, but a bearded drag queen is still a novelty to me, so the contrast between the masculine and feminine with Conchita is still so interesting to me. She is so glamorous while still retaining a touch of masculinity, and her sense of style has evolved over the years to play with gender norms even more. Some fans may miss the completely glammed up Conchita from Eurovision, but I enjoy seeing all the new looks that she comes up with because it is all well thought out and executed to perfection.

With so many drag queens releasing music nowadays, you really need to have something special to stand out from the crowd, and Conchita has that in both her look and her amazing vocals. Her debut album is not full of auto-tuned dance tracks, but is an actual collection of songs with a message that are sung full out with her amazing voice. Conchita is such an uplifting person - she calls her fans The Unstoppables - and her music conveys that through every track.

Aside from being an talented singer and performer, Conchita is also an extremely engaging personality off stage. She keeps in contact with her fans through social media, and her YouTube videos never fail to bring a smile to my face. She is so adorable and funny and has been a great spokesperson for her message of tolerance and equality for all. Conchita is a star in every sense of the word, and I can't wait to see what she comes out with next!
