"Wake up everyone, how can you sleep at a time like this unless the dreamer is the real you?" - Make it Mine
Jason Mraz is a singer/songwriter who got his start playing in the coffee shops of Southern California. Now he's a successful recording artist touring the world and working his hardest to make it a better place for everyone in the process. There are some people out there in the world that are perfectly suited for the work they do, and Jason Mraz is one of them. You can just tell that he loves music and performing, and it's not just that it's something that he wants to do, it's something that he has to do. It helps that he is extremely talented at both singing and songwriting, as well as a pretty darn good guitar player, and that he is a very unique individual. He has such a way with words ("It's all about the wordplay") and melodies that all of his songs get stuck in your head and stay with you. I became a fan for life at first listen and always look forward to hearing new music from him.
We were lucky to be able to see Jason Mraz live during his Gratitude Cafe Tour in 2009. It was definitely a different crowd than we are used to, but once Jason finally came out (he had two opening acts - Eric Hutchinson and G Love and Special Sauce) it was an awesome show. He sang most of the songs from "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things." as well as a few songs from his other albums, some covers, and an unrecorded song called "Never Too Late". I always knew that he was talented, but I have a much greater appreciation of how great of a musician Jason is after seeing his show live. It was a great show with a full band, but I would love the opportunity to see him in an acoustic setting one day, especially if he ever tours with Toca again as a duo. I love the sound of the two of them playing Jason's songs together and think that it would be an unforgettable evening.
Aside from being an awesome musician, he is also determined to help make the world a better place for all. He is very environmentally conscious, and also works hard to promote love the whole world over. His blogs are quite inspirational, as is his entire outlook on life, and we'd all be better off if there were a few more Jason Mraz's out there. Everything he creates is just so uplifting and joyful, and listening to his music never fails to put me in a good mood. Jason Mraz has definitely taken the most out of what life has offered him and I hope that he continues doing what he's doing for years to come.
