Soulmates | Randy & Sharona | Information | Pictures | Montages
Sharona Fleming was a nurse who had been asked by the police captain Leland Stottlemeyer to take care of his friend and fellow detective, Adrian Monk. Monk had completely shut himself off from the world after his wife Trudy was tragically killed in a car bomb. Due to Monk's mental state, the captain had to take his badge away, which left him with nothing to live for. Sharona helped Monk slowly come out of his shell and get by in his day to day life. He began to depend on Sharona for everything, and she helped him through a combination of mothering and tough love.
When Adrian was well enough to start taking on cases again (on a private consulting basis), Sharona became his assistant and accompanied him on all the cases to help him. He had a number of phobias, including germs, milk, heights, and everything else in between. Whenever Adrian needed a hand wipe, Sharona was there to give it to him. When she wasn't taking care of Adrian, she was at home taking care of her eleven year old son, Benjy. She had been married some years ago but it ended in divorce when she discovered that her ex had cheated on her. Sharona had a very no-nonsense attitude and although she got annoyed with Monk's irrational behavior at times, she was an excellent assistant. She was always there for him whenever he needed her and she proved herself to be not only a good nurse but also an excellent friend.
Randy Disher was a lieutenant in the police force and Captain Stottlemeyer's right hand man. He was very naive and almost child-like on occasion, but he always got the job done. Randy never let the captain down and was an excellent cop. When Monk and Sharona started coming in for jobs, he developed a crush on the nurse, and didn't manage to hide it very well from anyone. He seemed to enjoy the playful banter that they shared, although he often seemed to yearn for something more between them.
Up until the point in the series that Sharona left, her friendship with Randy seemed to only get stronger and the viewing audience was left with more than a few hits at a romance to come. The writers then chose to have Sharona move back to New Jersey and remarry her ex-husband, which left little to no chance of her ever returning to be with Randy. However, in the last season of the show Sharona came back to San Francisco to take care of family business, and it was as if she never left where Randy was concerned. The old crush came back full force, and Sharona's final divorce to her husband left the door wide open for Randy to finally make his move. Though it was not shown on screen, Randy and Sharona started a relationship together, and even though she had to go back to New Jersey, their future never looked brighter!

Randy & Sharona's Future
When Sharona was written out of the show, we never thought that there was even the slightest chance of Randy and her getting together in canon. The last few episodes of the series completely took us by surprise and gave us such a great ending to what we believed was an unfinished storyline. Not only did Randy and Sharona bond in the episode that she came back to San Francisco and finally kiss, but the series ended with Randy moving to New Jersey to be with her! He took over the position of police chief of a town in New Jersey so that he could be closer to Sharona and further their growing relationship. Five years ago, we gave up all hopes of any resolution to a relationship that we thought would be cute if it ever happened. Now, our hopes have become reality and Randy and Sharona are a real couple in the Monk universe with a great future in store for them!

Randy & Sharona's Quote
This quote was in the end of the episode "Mr. Monk Meets the Godfather". It took place right after Randy played a tape recording of a guy that Sharona liked showing his true colors. It was just a really cute interaction between the two of them, and it showed that Sharona really did care about him.
Sharona: "Thanks Randy."
Randy: "Maybe you won't make such fun of me all the time now, huh?"
Sharona (smiling): "No chance of that."

This quote is from the episode "Mr. Monk and the Paperboy", where Monk thought that there was something in his newspaper as to why the paperboy was murdered outside his house. The Captain, Randy, and Sharona all took a section of the paper to try and help Monk find what the clue could be.
Sharona: "Ooh, the personals!"
(Randy covers his hand over a part of the newspaper)
Sharona: "Can you move your hand?"
Randy: "I already looked through that section... Nothing in it."
(She pushes his hand off the paper)
Sharona (reading): "'Man with a badge in hot pursuit of romance. I'm 32, fit, sexy, ambitious, with a dynamite sense of humor.' Oh my God, that's you!"
Captain Stottlemeyer: "Dynamite sense of humor, since when?"
Randy (grabs for the newspaper): "Can I have that?"
Sharona (pulls it back and reads): "'Looking for petite blonde, no-nonsense attitude, kids okay.' That's me!"
Randy (embarrassed): "Don't flatter yourself."

The following quote was from the episode "Mr. Monk Takes Manhattan". Monk found a lead on his wife's murder that lead him to New York and Sharona, Randy, and the Captain all accompanied him on his trip. When they arrived at the hotel, they discovered that he had only booked three rooms.
Concierge (looking up their reservation): "Here we are... Monk. You have three rooms."
Monk: "Uh, three rooms. Well, me and Sharona..."
Sharona: "Wait, wait, wait... I thought I was getting my own room."
Monk: "Look, well, I'd rather not be by myself... Me and the Captain."
Captain Stottlemeyer: "No, no, no, no... Sharing the cab was bad enough."
Sharona: "Well, why don't we just get a fourth room."
Concierge: "Sorry, we're completely booked."
Randy: "Oh, well, uh... How about me and Sharona?"
Sharona: "In your dreams."
