Monk is a crime investigation comedy/drama that is one of our favorite shows.  It is currently in its fourth season and although there have been major changes to the show, it is still relatively enjoyable.  We don't watch many of the crime dramas, but this one is very different from most.

What was Monk about?

Monk is about a detective named Adrian Monk who is trying to get reinstated to the police force and solve the murder of his late wife.  He is not like most of the other cops, as he has a debilitating case of OCD, which causes him to obsess over even the most miniscule of things.  It is a really good show and halfway through season three it underwent a major change in cast, as the actress playing his nurse Sharona left and he got a new assistant named Natalie.


What was the best part about the show?

The best part of the show, without a doubt, are the scenes with the Captain and Randy (especially Randy, he's our favorite character!!)  They are much more interesting to us than Monk is, and they add a much needed dynamic to the show.


What was the worst part about the show?

The worst part has been the dumbing down of Monk's character and the humanization of Trudy.  Monk's character has been going slowly downhill for awhile, but he hit rock bottom in "Mr. Monk Gets Drunk", the worst episode of the series, in our opinion.  (Even worse than the terrible monkey episode).  The other worst part, as I mentioned, was when they recast Trudy and made her a recurring character.  She is dead and should only been in flashbacks, in our opinion.  When Adrian begins seeing and talking to her, that does not mean he is getting better.


Where did the show go wrong?

The show probably went wrong in the beginning of season 3, with the New York episode.  Up to that point, the show was pretty consistent and only had a few bad episodes, whereas after that episode, it is either hit or miss.  Adding Natalie didn't kill the show as we thought it would, but it seems only half the eps since she came in have been good.
