Ten Characters I Love
1. Sawyer (Lost)
2. Shuichi (Gravitation)
3. Kate (Lost)
4. Ned (Pushing Daisies)
5. Ryuichi (Gravitation)
6. Yuri (Kyo Kara Maoh)
7. Olive (Pushing Daisies)
8. Wolfram (Kyo Kara Maoh)
9. Charlie (Lost)
10. Face (The A-Team)
1. Divide the list up by even and odd. Which group of five would make a better Five Man Band (like a Power Rangers team)? Who would you slot in each position: Leader, Lancer (second-in-command), Big Guy, Smart Guy, The Chick? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the even and odd groups, which ones would you switch?
Group A: Sawyer, Kate, Ryuichi, Olive, Charlie
Group B: Shuichi, Ned, Yuri, Wolfram, Face
Both groups have a great diversity of personality types and abilities, so I think that they would both make effective "Five Man Band's". Everyone is ready for adventure and would be willing to pitch in for any given situation they may come across.
Group A:
Leader: Kate (she was supposed to be the leader in the original pilot episode, so why not?)
Lancer: Charlie (he couldn't pass as a leader, but he could be a believable sidekick)
Big Guy: Sawyer (he is definitely the toughest on this team)
Smart Guy: Ryuichi (Sawyer may be the smartest - or at least the most well read- but he is too rough and gruff to be the brainy guy in the group)
Chick: Olive (no explanation necessary)
Group B:
Leader: Yuri (he's the Demon King and would probably be forced into the leadership role)
Lancer: Wolfram (he's Yuri's fiancé and constant companion)
Big Guy: Face (he was in the army, so he's probably the most macho in the group)
Smart Guy: Ned (he's probably the most socially awkward and brainy)
Chick: Shuichi (how many times did he call himself Yuki's wife?)
2. Gender-swap 2 (Shuichi), 8 (Wolfram) & 10 (Face). Which character would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believable as the opposite sex?
I don't think Shuichi's or Wolfram's story arc's would have to be changed much at all if they were females. Their shows would become boring cliché's and lose their uniqueness though. The actor who plays Face has commented numerous times on how his character would become female if the A-Team were to ever be remade (bitterly, I might add). I don't believe that the character of Face would work as a girl at all though. In fact, none of the three would be in the least bit interesting if they were female because the majority of their charm comes from the fact that they are males with feminine qualities.
3. Compare the matchups of 1 (Sawyer) & 8 (Wolfram) and 5 (Ryuichi) & 9 (Charlie). (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment.) Which couple would be more compatible? Which couple would be more plausible to people from either principal's home culture?
Ryuichi and Charlie would definitely be more plausible and compatible than Sawyer and Wolfram. Both Ryu and Charlie are musicians, and I could see Charlie experimenting with other guys way more than Sawyer. Actually, if it was pretty much anyone but Wolfram paired up with Sawyer, I could probably see it working. Wolfram would get on Sawyer's nerves within the first five seconds of being together, and he wouldn't be able to take Wolfram's views on commitment (don't even look at another male/female).
4. Your team is 3 (Kate), 4 (Ned) & 9 (Charlie). The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?
Charlie could do the social challenge, Ned the mental, and Kate the physical. Kate is probably the strongest out of the three, and while she would also do okay with a social challenge, she is mentally unstable. Ned would not do well with a social challenge because of his awkwardness and sheltered life, but he does help solve murders, so mentally he would do well. Charlie is good with people and loves to talk, so the social challenge would be perfect for him!
5. 7 (Olive) becomes 1's (Sawyer) boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's their working relationship?
Sawyer would probably let her boss him around as much as she wanted because she's cute and he doesn't have much self control when it comes to women. He'd have her in the palm of his hand by the end of the week though (who could resist those dimples?).
6. 2 (Shuichi) finds him/her/itself inserted into 6's (Yuri) continuity. As far as anyone other than 2 or 6 is concerned, they've always been there. What role would 2 be presumed to have had in 6's story, and could they fit in without going wonky?
Shuichi could be one of Yuri's friends from school back in Japan. Shuichi could have just been transported to the Demon Kingdom by accident during one of Yuri's journeys. He would probably cry a lot because Yuki wasn't there, but he would fit right in with the rest of the quirky cast.
7. 3 (Kate) and 5 (Ryuichi) get three wishes. The catch is that they have to agree on all three wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What three wishes would they make?
All that Kate wants in life is to be seen as "good" by other people, to have someone love her for herself (even though those two contradict each other...I wonder if that's why she isn't happy?), and to no longer be on the run. Ryuichi wants to have fun and have Shuichi leave Yuki for him (I think). Perhaps the two would agree to let Kate wish that her mother had not turned her in to the Feds (so she would no longer be on the run), both could wish for true love, and they could also wish for a nice long vacation with the loves that the second wish bestowed on them.
8. 1 (Sawyer) and 2 (Shuichi) are brainwashed by a one-time artifact that works even on people immune to mind control to attack and kill 4 (Ned). They keep their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any Code vs. Killing has been turned off. Can 4 survive? How?
Ned does not stand a chance. Sawyer has killed before and Shuichi is probably capable of anything, especially if someone told him that Ned hurt Yuki. Ned is just a pie-maker, and while he does have some cool skills, he could never stand up to the other two in a battle.
9. 6 (Yuri), 7 (Olive), 9 (Charlie) & 10 (Face) must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa?
Yuri would organize a toy drive and decorations and get all of his friends to participate in wrapping and putting up the tree and other things. Olive and Charlie would team up to provide entertainment (her singing and him backing her up on guitar). Face and the rest of the A-Team would work their hardest to make sure that the kids had a good time and that no one would stop the festivities from going on without a hitch. Face's friend B.A. would most likely dress up as Santa because he loves kids and would want to bring a smile to their faces in whatever way they could.
10. 3 (Kate) and 8 (Wolfram) are challenged to circumnavigate the Earth in eighty days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or will they be fatally distracted by sidequests or their own personality conflicts?
I don't think they would succeed. Wolfram gets terrible seasickness and wouldn't be able to survive long sea voyages, and Kate would not be willing to slow down until he felt better (she's on the run and would be constantly looking over her shoulder). Kate would definitely be able to do it if she wasn't caught by the police along the way because of her inability to stay put. Wolfram, on the other hand, would not succeed unless it was someone questioning his honor (or trying to steal Yuri) that challenged them. If that were the case, Wolfram would put himself through anything to prove himself. |
