ROAR was another of many great shows that was cancelled before its first season finished airing.  Five of the 13 episodes were not aired in the original run, but the show has since been released on DVD.  It's too bad FOX didn't realize what a breakout star Heath Ledger was to become, or maybe they would have given ROAR more of a chance.

What was ROAR about?

ROAR was a show about a young Celtic prince named Conor who sought revenge against the Romans who had killed his family and destroyed his home.  There were many others who had also suffered at the hands of the Romans, and Conor became their leader.  Conor worked tirelessly to achieve his father's goal of uniting all the tribes in the land to stand together as one against the Romans.


What was the best part about the show?

The best part for us was that it was an action-adventure type of show, but it was quite different from all of the others that were around at the same time.  It was slightly darker and more realistic when compared with Hercules, Xena, or Sinbad.  It was more about the characters than the fighting which we enjoyed because we prefer character driven shows.  Most of the characters were very strong and the actors did a great job.


What was the worst part about the show?

Well, aside from all of the episodes never being aired in the US, the worst part for us was Catlin.  She was so annoying and didn't really seem to have a purpose in the show other than reminding people she used to be a slave.  It seemed that the writers wanted to have her get together with Conor, but there was no real chemistry there and then Molly was brought in.  Most fans of the show really liked Catlin, but we just didn't see why and were glad when she was barely in the later episodes.


Where did the show go wrong?

It didn't have time to go wrong.  The last episode of the show was really bad and had nothing to do with the rest of the series, but aside from that the show was really very good.


What is our favorite/most memorable scene?

The building scene in "The Cage" when everyone was singing, all of the Conor and Molly scenes in "The Cage", the scenes when Fergus was talking to Conor about Molly in the middle of the night in "Doyle's Solution", the young father not wanting to take a bath, when Fergus was yelling to find Molly in "Traps", Claire's death scene and when Conor was talking at her funeral in the pilot, when Conor roared, when Conor saved Molly from falling over the waterfall in "Doyle's Solution", and the last scene of the show.


Who are our favorite characters and why?

Our favorite characters were Conor, Fergus, and Molly.  Conor was a very interesting character and Heath Ledger played the reluctant leader very well.  His relationships with both Fergus and Molly were really cute and we were glad to see them develop more in the episodes that were not originally aired.  Fergus was very cute and funny, but he was also a three dimensional character who we enjoyed watching grow throughout the show.  Molly was a welcome addition to the cast and we were glad to see her come back to the show after her initial episode.
